With the COMBINUM Nomenclature module a product key automatically can be generated as the configuration proceeds. A product key is a string of text that describes the configuration. This product key is automatically updated during the configuration, which quickly gives the user an overall picture of the current configuration.
The forerunners of configurators were often long product keys that defined how the product was configurated. A string of text that roughly describes a configuration can still be a good guideline for communication with customer and service technician. To be able to generate such a rule based string of text COMBINUM has a nomenclature engine.
Underneath we see an example of a simple form of a product key. This string represents a configuration of a car. Above the string we see which type of choice/option that has been chosen and below the string we see what each part of the string means, in other words, what deliberate choices the string represents.
